It was on the 15th of September, with a charity dinner held at Miraflores Golf, Calahonda, and enlivened by the musical show ‘Late Summer Extravaganza’ and several raffles, when Simply Thriving Group, a group made up mainly of English senior citizens, achieved this feat, raising 6,000 euros for AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa. Valerie Williams, a member of this group, told us this Friday that "on other occasions, they have made donations for animal associations, but this time they have thought about Alzheimer's patients because the work that AFA does for them is very important; there are many people, Spanish, English and from other countries, who have Alzheimer's, and it is very important to help".

 

But the association of relatives of Alzheimer's patients not only received the 6,000 euros raised by this group, but also another 1,000 euros donated by the English newspaper Euro Weekly News. One of their journalists, Adam Woodward, said that "we like to look after the community we have here on the Costa del Sol and also to get involved in the events that are organised to raise money".

AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa, which continues to work for the welfare of families who suffer from the ravages of Alzheimer's, could not be more grateful for this gesture of solidarity. Its president, Paqui Lebrón, explained what the funds will be used for: "This will go towards the extension of the centre, which is so badly needed".
