It will take place this Saturday 23rd at the Gran Parque, featuring a charity run, craft workshops, theatre in English and storytelling

The Mijas Town Hall will hold the second edition of Family Day this Saturday 23rd of May at the Gran Parque. The event has been specially designed for the enjoyment of children of all ages as well as adults, with a wide range of activities filling the site, ranging from sport to gastronomy,  culture, and art.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), presented this initiative on Tuesday 19th, which is organised by the Department of Family and Equal Opportunities. She encouraged all Mijas residents to attend and enjoy a full day sharing charitable actions, such as the race in aid of the Mejor En Familia association, which promotes foster care as a means of integrating minors at risk. “As a government team, we are very clear that our objective in Mijas is to work for the families. In this regard, we have many activities to offer”, said the mayoress, who stated that “no one can be left behind here; we all have to participate in each and every activity on offer”.

The mayoress highlighted the Town Hall’s commitment to this day of fun and outdoor coexistence, where creative, educational, sporting and cultural attractions will allow families to spend their weekend on recreational activities. In addition, there will be gastronomic options for visitors.

There are two ways to take part in the race: register by email at deportes.competicion@mijas.es, providing your full name and age, until Friday 22nd at 14:00; or at the Gran Parque on Saturday from 10:00.

The councillor for Sport, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), explained that “after the race, the Chess Club and the Button Football Club will be there all day,  and then we’ll have flamenco fitness in the morning. In the sports area ther will be football in the morning and basketball in the afternoon”.

A multitude of activities

The 2nd Family Day will begin at 10:30, although the Gran Parque will be open from 9:00, and will run until 21:00. Mata listed the main activities taking place, which range from pottery workshops organised by Más Que Barro to theatre in English by Kids & Us, as well as face painting (Veo Veo play centre), storytelling (La Cometa), dog training and educational workshops on nature organised by Bioparc; there will also be activities led by UP teachers.

Saturday 23rd of May

The 2nd Family Day will take place this Saturday 23rd because the previous Saturday, 16th of May, which is the closest to the 15th May (when International Day of Families is celebrated), was the day of reflection prior to the regional elections. In subsequent years, they announced, it will return to its original date.
