On Tuesday 19th, the Mijas Foreigners Department presented its activities ahead of the summer season and reported on changes to the solidarity tables, which are bringing forward their dates so they do not coincide with the local fairs. On the one hand, the Lions Club Summer Fair and, on the other, Mijas Felina Day, which will take place on the 24th of May from 10:00 to 16:00 with gastronomy, entertainment and a charity market in the square in front of the La Cala Branch Office. 

“We have prepared a schedule from 10:00 to 14:00 with homemade food prepared by our members, both sweet and savoury, and at 12:00, we’ll have Naima and her girls with belly dancing”, explained the secretary of Mijas Felina, Manuela Bernardo.  

Also in May, on Sunday 31st, and with the collaboration of the Foreigners Department, comes the Summer Fair organised by the Lions. “They also do it to raise funds to be able to maintain their charitable work throughout the year, and there will be music, activities, food, a second-hand market, and, as a new feature, a fashion show”, said the councillor for Foreigners at the Mijas Town Hall, Mario Bravo (PP). It will be in La Butibamba Park from eleven in the morning, a fair in which there will be 40 craft stalls and activities for children. 

Solidarity tables

Bravo also reported on the change of date for the solidarity tables that are installed in the square in front of the La Cala Branch Office: “We are going to continue with the solidarity tables, but we let you know that instead of being the fourth Wednesday of each month, we are bringing it forward to the third Wednesday and third Saturday of each month in June and July to avoid coincidences with the Las Lagunas and La Cala fairs, and then in August we return to the last Wednesday and Saturday of the month”, affirmed Bravo. 

According to the councillor for Foreigners, it is about offering an image of Mijas as an attractive and caring town for both visitors and residents. These activities are part of a programme called ‘Make solidarity your gift this summer’.
