‘Leben im Alter’ or how to live better in old age, is the name of the talk held on Tuesday at the La Cala Branch Office, aimed on this occasion at the German community and organised by the Foreigners Department of the Mijas Town Hall.
“What will happen if one day I am old or have some illnesses, or my partner perhaps passes away before me? These are tips for living better in old age”, said Katja Thirion, a technician from the Foreigners Department of the Mijas Town Hall. These talks are offered free of charge to residents of Mijas to help them solve their doubts or fears. “Older people sometimes experience loneliness because they are not surrounded by a family or social support network, such as foreigners who moved abroad with only their partner”, explained psychotherapist Christiane Rudigier.

How to deal with the necessary paperwork in the event of leaving an inheritance, or how to cope with the death of a partner, are some of the legal issues that the lawyer helped to resolve. “Today, the topic is how to make a will, to see how it works here compared to Germany, because there are other formalities, also regarding power of attorney, or if at some point I do not have legal capacity or am temporarily incapacitated”, said lawyer Jutta Tackmann.
These are issues that people do not usually think about when they are young but that must be considered at a certain age. To ensure language is not a barrier, the Foreigners Department organises these talks on the topics most frequently asked about by residents.
