The charity tables in the Mayor’s Office Square in La Cala have new summer opening hours. From Wednesday 29th, this charity market organised by the Foreigners’ Department will be set up, on the last Tuesdays and Wednesdays of July and August from 7 pm to 10 pm. “For the first day, with the new summer timetable, the truth is, it is being well received. We made this change last year, and it was well-received,” said the Foreigners’ Department Councillor, Arancha López (Cs).
On the first day, in the afternoon, many people came to find out about the charity associations’ work. The NGO Diksha was one setting up a stand. This group has been working to improve the living standards of children in India for more than a hundred years. “Our main project is to take in children so that they can study and give them hope in life, which is so important for them, so it’s 20 euros a month”, explained the volunteer and member of the association, Dora Buil.
Charity actions
Foreigners Department invite any charity association interested in getting in touch with them. This place is good for raising funds and making themselves known. Even more so, now, in summer, when La Cala welcomes many visitors. “There is space for associations involved in charity work, but whoever is interested has to communicate it to the Foreigners Department to organise it well”, explained the Councillor.
The Lions Club, Mijas Felina, Donkey Dreamland, Cáritas, Animal Care España, and Domino are other groups that usually set up their charity tables here. “Sometimes, you don’t sell what you would like, but people come, they know you... this flea market in La Cala is important for me,” added Buil.
So remember, if you are in La Cala, don’t forget to take a look at this flea market. You will find the souvenir you were looking for, and at the same time, you will be helping a good cause.
