The Security Board discusses the measures to be taken at large-scale events

  • Other issues, in terms of security, were discussed at this meeting.

This matter was addressed on Thursday 30th at the first Local Security Board in person after the pandemic

The ‘Cala Mijas’ Festival, to be held from 1st to 3rd September, is one of the priorities in terms of security for the Mijas Town Hall. and which was chaired by the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the Government sub-delegate in the province, Javier Salas. Also,  the city First Deputy Mayor, Jose Carlos Martín (Cs), was at the meeting.

This event, is expected to be huge due to the number of international and national artists who will perform in the ‘Cortijo Colorado’ area. “It will be a historic milestone for the municipality as never before has an event of this magnitude, and there will have to be an unprecedented security deployment given the large number of people expected for these three days,” said the Mayor.
For months, work has been underway on this arrangement at meetings involving the City Council, the Local Police, the Guardia Civil, and the concert promoter. The aim is “to have an unprecedented security deployment in Mijas, which will ensure not only the well-being of the people but also the fluency of access and traffic in the area,” said the Councillor.

 

Other matters of interest

Other issues, in terms of security, were discussed at this meeting. “We have ‘La Cala Fair’ at the end of July and the Mijas Pueblo Fair at the beginning of September. We have requested special devices for the presence of the Guardia Civil, which is necessary. We have put on the table issues that concern us and protocols for action, which need to be a little clearer between the collaboration that must exist between the Mijas Local Police and Guardia Civil, which is the one that provides the public safety service in the city,” said González.
Martin praised the Local Government Board, as they are “productive meetings, which are in line to improve security, and highlight the magnificent collaboration between the Guardia Civil and the Local Police”.
The Government sub-delegate in Malaga declared that “the Guardia Civil is working  with the Local Police to improve security at these events and to increase their presence in the municipality”.

 

Security

The Government sub-delegate also highlighted Mijas as one of the safest municipalities in Malaga: “ Mijas is a safe municipality, a benchmark on the Costa del Sol. It has a lower crime rate than the rest of the surrounding municipalities. That means that Mijas continues to be a benchmark on the coast for tourists”.
Finally, they pointed out, a collaboration agreement was signed between the Guardia Civil and the Local Police for questions related to information channels and progress in the agreement signed with the Town Hall for the protection of victims of gender violence, called VioGen.
The meeting attended by members of the municipal corporation and involved agents of the Guardia Civil, Mijas Local Police, and the National Police attached unit, which will take part in the security arrangements for this summer.
