The Lions Club announces its annual charity walk to raise awareness about diabetes this coming Sunday, 8th of November

The Lions Club, Huella Felina, Diksha España, Ace Shine Animal Care and Sembrando Sonrisas were among the associations that set up their charity stalls in La Cala de Mijas last Sunday, 1st November. This initiative, promoted by the Foreigners Department of Mijas Town Hall, takes place on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month, although on this occasion, due to national mourning, it was held on a Sunday. “We give associations dedicated to addressing some of Mijas’ needs the opportunity to sell their products, offer their services and raise some money to continue their activities”, highlighted the councillor in charge of the department, Mario Bravo (PP).

For NGOs, initiatives of this kind are very important, as the founder of Diksha España, Jovanka Manolovivc, pointed put: “We are dedicated to providing a quality education to the most disadvantaged children in India, and we have been doing so for over ten years. For just 20 euros, a child can go to school and eat for a month”.

In addition, the Lions Club announced its annual walk to raise awareness about diabetes, a silent condition that can be fatal, as the association points out. “It is an illness that causes damage to the eyes, heart, kidneys and circulation, and it is important that it is detected in time”, said Mercy Chapman, a volunteer with the diabetic support group, who noted that the group carries out free testing at these charity stalls.

As for the route, spanning five kilometres, it will take place on Sunday 8th November at 10:00 am and will follow the Coastal Path. The meeting point will be Plaza del Torreón. After the walk, there will be live entertainment until 15:00 and a market with 40 stalls.
