The department has planned informative talks, conferences, charity and Valentine’s Day markets

The Mijas Foreigners Department offers a wide range of services to residents and tourists alike. It began its activity in 1985 and responds to the foreign population. Organising activities is one of its main focuses; therefore, on Thursday 13th, it presented the activities that make up its programme for the months of February and March.

“What we want is to attend to those who arrived one day as tourists and have stayed as residents; for this we try to make their lives a little easier and we have a helpdesk for those who come to see us, but we also want to go out into the street and organise these types of activities”, said the councillor for the Foreigners’ Department in Mijas, Mario Bravo (PP).

The first of these events will take place this Sunday 16th of February in La Butibamba Park, in La Cala, with the collaboration of the dementia support group of the La Cala Lions Club. In this activity, entitled ‘The Forget-me-not tree’, which includes a Valentine’s market, people will be able to leave messages for their loved ones. Also in February, on the 22nd and 26th, from 11 to 14 hours, solidarity tables will be set up in front of the La Cala Branch Office in aid of different charities.

On the 25th of February at 16 hours there will be an informative talk in English with Blacktower at the La Cala Branch Office. “We will talk about issues that concern the foreign community such as visas, taxes, tax changes in other countries such as England and which may have implications for the residents here”, said the director of Blacktower, Tim Govaerts. In our case, we will talk about visas, the new requirements that have recently been approved for both new applications and renewals”, said lawyer Patricia Ruiz.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day will be commemorated on March 7th with a day of talks in English organised by Costa Women, which will take place at CIOMijas from 9 to 16 hours. “Different women will speak on different topics and registration is required to participate in this event”, said Ali Meehan, founder of Costa Woman. Professionals from different fields, coaches and writers will take part in this event. In March the charity tables will return on the 26th and 29th from 11 to 16 hours and on the 29th, from 12 to16 hours, there will be a waiters’ race and a Lions Club charity market in the Torreón square in La Cala.
