According to the Traveler portal, Mijas is among the most romantic villages in Spain. Among the places that stand out are the area of the wall and its gardens, the Barrio Santana and the Hermitage of the Virgen de Peña. The magazine says that the town is one of the places to consider “for a special occasion” and stresses that success is guaranteed. Mijas and Ronda are the only towns in Malaga to appear in this ranking.
Moreover, as the Beatles’ famous song says, “All you need is love” and, in Mijas, we can vouch for the fact that there is love in every corner of the municipality. On February 14th, Valentine’s Day is celebrated, the Day of Love and there are many ways to say I love you. We can say it face to face, through a letter or message, with flowers, preparing a delicious dinner or just spending time with the other person. In Mijas many businesses are ready to help you express this feeling, today we discover some of them.
Strolling through the three centres of Mijas, during these days we find the facades of some municipal buildings decorated with hearts and floral arrangements dedicated to love. This is the case of the Folk Museum in Mijas Pueblo, the Manuel España Theatre in Las Lagunas and the Branch Office in La Cala. The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, and the councillor of the government team, Daniel Gómez Teruel also enjoyed the romantic image of the Folk Museum.
A treat for the palate
In one of these establishments, the Sabor a España shop, one of the shop assistants, Pablo Torreblanca, told us that “what we have made for Valentine’s Day are caramel apples in the shape of a rose and grapes. We also have the campaign ‘The month of love’ where we offer biscuits, pistachios and chocolates”. This could be the sweetest way to start the celebration of February 14th.
A valuable gift
Those who want to buy a little something in the form of a piece of jewellery for their loved one can also do so. “We have prepared jewellery, decorative items made with crystals and little things that reflect love, romanticism and so on. What sells most at these type of events for couples are rings with diamonds”, explained one of the staf at the Tamisa shop, Isabel Rojas. She also said that “we always have a little discount for residents and some special offers on certain things”.
Romantic date
Love has to be cared for and cherished, as well as nurtured, which is why the next stop could be a restaurant decorated with romantic motifs. La Reja Restaurant offers something very romantic: “The food is going to be the same as what we have on the menu because we have a pretty good menu, but we are going to put a photocall at the entrance so that people can take a photo, we are also going to give a little rose and a welcome appetiser to each of the couples”, explained the owner, María de la Peña Moreno.
Celebrate love in a magical palce
Those who want to extend the celebration can do so thanks to businesses such as the Hotel Tamisa, which offers a special night thanks to a package that includes a delicious dinner at its restaurant El Mirador del golf, accompanied by live music, accommodation and use of the wellness area for two people. In addition, the director of the hotel, Casimiro Rodríguez, said that the fact that it is Friday is a very positive thing. “This year the date is very good, as between Friday and Saturday many reservations have been extended for the weekend and the truth is that we are very happy”, said Rodriguez. The dinner menu consists of a starter, a fish and a meat dish, a dessert and a drink from the wine cellar.
If you don’t have a partner, it’s OK, Valentine’s Day is also a day to celebrate with friends, family and loved ones. The important thing is to enjoy love in all its forms. So now you know, fall in love in Mijas.
