The Mijas Councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel, visited the beaches of Los Cordobeses and El Bombo this Tuesday to check on the work carried out after the latest west storms that have lashed the municipality. The councillor pointed out that "nine days ago the west storm affected the area of El Bombo, so we started working immediately with dumper trucks, a bulldozer and a 22 tonne machine, taking the sand that had been deposited at the mouth of the La Cala stream and moving it to El Bombo to regenerate the area, keeping the beaches in perfect condition for the summer season".
The west winds have been very intense in the Costa del Sol this year, which is why the Town Hall had to carry out this work very quickly to mitigate the damage caused in the middle of the summer season. As the councillor pointed out. To be concrete, "we have moved 10,000 cubic metres of sand, although during the first three days of work, the west wind was still blowing and the sea was a little rough. We have had to open a way to reach the area of El Bombo and deposit there the sand extracted from the La Cala stream and from the Nanet beach", said Gómez Teruel.
The work carried out was more than just the sand transfer, because, "the first and most important thing was to protect the sewage systems. On the El Bombo beach, the sewage well was exposed at a height of almost three metres, so it was important to prevent the storm from breaking it, causing sewage spillages and beach closures. On the other hand, the main tourist attraction, the coastal path, which had to be preserved and maintained", explained the councillor.
The Town Hall expressed its gratitude for the fast intervention of the General Directorate of the Coast, which granted the necessary permits to carry out the work.
