Mijas hosted last weekend the first Truck Rally and Transport Fair. An event held at the fairgrounds of Las Lagunas in which 215 vehicles from different cities of Spain participated and which was full of activities. Classic, antique, modern, tuned and even mini trucks... are some of the vehicles that move the world on a daily basis and that we have been able to see during these days at this event.
"The aim was to bring the sector together on the one hand. On the other hand, that truck enthusiasts could enjoy the day and, finally, to raise funds for the Mijas association for the disabled, Adimi", explained the organiser of this meeting, Jorge Pascual. All this resulted in a positive outcome for the event. The event was attended by some members of the government team such as the councillor for Transport, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), who declared that "this rally was a success due to the large number of lorries that have visited us", and also offered an apology to the residents on behalf of the Town Hall "for the excessive noise". The councillor for Festivities and Traditions, Silvia Marín (PP), was also present and emphasised that "a lot of people from Mijas have come here to see this great spectacle of trucks, we hope that they have enjoyed".
As the organiser said, the event also had a charitable purpose, since all the money raised by the bar, managed by the Association of Charity Food for Autism, went to the association Adimi, its spokesman, Sebastián Fernández, said that "for Adimi every charitable thing that is done is a great help", and the member of the Association of Charity Food, Paco Cuba, said that "in the bar there were about 70 people who collaborated selflessly".
Awards ceremony
After two days of exhibition and fun, Sunday was time for the awards ceremony. A total of 45 awards were presented, such as best airbrushing, lighting, interior, exterior, loudest exhaust, farthest truck, classics, American... And there was also a very special award. "We have made a recognition to a friend of the sector who was very dear, he was an icon and he died a little while ago working on his truck and well the family deserves it", said one of the organizers, David Miranda.
As a surprise, Mijas Town Hall also received a plaque for its collaboration with the event. This transport fair was a way of highlighting the work carried out every day by the drivers who work on the roads. "It is a hard work. You spend a lot of time away from home, you don't see your family, you have problems here, problems there, so if you really want to become a lorry driver it's either because you really like it or because it runs in your family", explained one of the lorry drivers, Carmen María Toribio. Her colleague, Jesús Marfil, pointed out that "there is a lot of work behind the truck". Although it means being away from his loved ones, his son Alejandro, for example, shares his passion: "Trucking has been one of my greatest passions since I was a child and I don't regret having a family like this and being involved in this world".
