The area for Street Cleaning activated a special device during Carnival weekend

  • Civil Protection Mijas collaborated in the service
  • Dos de las barredoras durante el carnaval.

Two street sweepers and operators were deployed in the three centres, and in La Cala and Las Lagunas a sweeper lorry was also incorporated

During Friday, Saturday and Sunday, the Mijas Street Cleaning Department set up a special support system for the carnival celebrations in the town. The work teams made a total of three passes along the respective routes of the carnival parades: one before the start of the parade, the second accompanying the procession and the third once the parade was over.

In La Cala de Mijas, the cleaning team consisted of two sweepers and three operators equipped with blowers, as well as an open box truck to ensure the collection and transport of waste. This configuration allowed, according to the councillor for Street Cleaning, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), for the efficient and quick cleaning of the streets after the carnival parades.

On the other hand, in Las Lagunas, a larger operation was deployed which included a sweeper attached to a lorry, two normal sweepers, four operators with blowers, one operator with a rake and another one in charge of the collection of rubbish bins and other waste, as well as the open-box lorry for the rubbish. This reinforced team ensured "the thorough cleaning of the area", explained the councillor.

In Mijas Pueblo, the approach was similar to that of La Cala, with two sweepers, two operators with blowers, one with a rake and an open box truck. "The strategy was well adapted to the specific characteristics of this picturesque area, keeping the streets clean and accessible after the celebration".

Belmonte expressed his satisfaction with the development of the carnival, highlighting "the absence of incidents and the effectiveness of the security and cleanliness measures implemented". The councillor emphasised that "these measures not only guaranteed the safety of those attending, but also allowed the cleaning staff to carry out their work in the best possible way".

At the end of the day, the councillor said that "the streets of Mijas were left in perfect condition". He thanked "the three cleaning operatives for their dedication and effort, which contributed to the fact that we could enjoy ourselves with family and friends, without worrying about the cleanliness of the streets".

Civil Protection

"Unlike the Three Kings parade, on this occasion, the operation was coordinated with Civil Protection, whose volunteers were in charge of regulating traffic and the passage of passers-by to facilitate the clean-up work", explained Belmonte.
