They arrived at the Employment Promotion building with enthusiasm and excitement. So said the 141 people who, since Thursday 6th, are no longer unemployed to take up a job for six months in the socio-occupational insertion programme Renta Básica of Mijas Town Hall. Imane Barqach is one of them. He said, “I need to work because I didn’t have a job, so this programme interests me, and I like it”. Both those who are repeating this programme and those who are joining it for the first time were happy. Bouchra Abaida Zerouali valued it positively: “I think it’s great because there are a lot of people in need. I think it’s good”. Currently, the company Mijas Servicios Complementarios has 154 workers, of which 141 belong to the list of those admitted to the current recruitment process.

Welcome to the programme
The Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), and the managing directors of the municipal company, Laura Moreno (PSOE) and Arancha López (Cs), were in charge of welcoming them to this training and employment programme. The main objective is to provide opportunities for those unemployed people at risk of social exclusion and who, they said, have better and better conditions. “We are trying from Mijas Complementary Services, with a firm and economic commitment that makes the City Council for this program, to improve not only the workers working conditions but also to implement more and more training as far as possible. They can join the labour market once they finish the six months with us in Basic Income, “ said the Mayor. “We continue supporting this programme to help those people who at a particular moment need this help from their Local Council so that they can have the opportunity to re-enter the labour market through the training that we provide in this programme”, said Arancha López.
Laura Moreno said, “we are investing in new measures to improve the Renta Básica service as it is important. Although we have reduced unemployment levels, there is still a high number of jobless people”.
