Sanitation work begins on Monday10th in Mijas La Nueva

  • The project will be completed with the La Alquería sewer, which is currently in the contracting phase
  • According to councillor José Carlos Martín, “collectors will mean all the surrounding urbanisations can have a direct connection to the sewage system |

The collector has about 1,300 metres in length

The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Infrastructures and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), travelled to the Mijas La Nueva urbanisation entrance on Thursday 6th, announcing that sanitation works will begin next week in this area. They, explained the Councillor, include the construction of a PVC collector with a diameter of 315 millimetres and a length of 1,300 metres, “which will be connected to the municipal water network so that the wastewater treatment plant located at this point will cease operating”. Martín pointed out that the project will significantly improve the residents’ quality of life in the outlying areas and housing estates. “ It will eliminate a problem that these residents have been suffering for a long time regarding the sewage disposal because this collector will take it to the general network”.

The project has been awarded 368,485 euros to the company ERVEGA S.A., has a completion period of 5 months and, initially, will not involve cutting roads or paths. “ It’s not the kind of work we do in an urban area, which inevitably causes inconvenience to traffic and parking. Here the route goes through a less inhabited area, in the countryside, so obviously, we are not going to have those inconveniences generated elsewhere,” said the Councillor. The works in Mijas La Nueva will be added to a second project, currently under contract, in the area of La Alquería, which will have another new collector. This time a route of more than 3,000 metres in which rural areas are linked to the municipal sewage network.
Besides these collectors, the government team is working on two other infrastructures in the east and west cornices of Mijas Pueblo. The first one will run for 6.6 kilometres and the second one for 12 kilometres.
