The First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Infrastructure and Works, José Carlos Martín (Cs), and Town Planning and Industry Councillor, Andrés Ruiz (Cs), visited this week, the construction works of the former Hotel Byblos in Mijas, accompanied by the municipal technicians of the competent areas. “The works have entered their final stretch, and soon, we will have this outstanding accommodation on the Costa del Sol. A five-star luxury hotel that will add a new attraction to the local hotel industry, putting back on the map, one of the most distinguished establishments of European glamour and luxury with the associated tourism linked to this segment,” said Martín.
Ruiz stressed that “the municipal technicians are checking that all the infrastructures are in line with the project, so we are working in parallel with the works to have all the bureaucracy ready as soon as possible so that this new economic revitalisation can get underway”.
Thus, the project has involved a thorough renovation of this iconic accommodation of the Costa del Sol for decades. The front, and the most characteristic elements have been restored and maintained.
This establishment, renamed La Zambra, will create around 200 direct jobs in Mijas, along with all the indirect jobs linked to this type of business.
The hotel will have around 200 rooms and a wide range of services: a spa, swimming pools, a wellness centre, and a wide variety of gastronomic offerings. The project aims at one of La Costa del Sol’s main objectives, to promote seasonal tourism in the area thanks to the golf courses.
The Byblos Hotel has been known worldwide, especially in the 90s, for receiving famous guests such as Lady Diana of Wales, Julio Iglesias, Antonio Banderas, or the Rolling Stones, besides royalty and members of the international aristocracy.
