Music, charity events, and exhibitions complete the cultural programme

This weekend, Mijas offers a packed programme of leisure and cultural activities. The programme begins on Friday 30th October with a flamenco evening at the Peña Flamenca del Sur, located at Paseo Costa del Sol, 1, in La Cala. The performance starts at 21:30 and will feature Antonio García ‘El Califa’ on vocals, accompanied by Antonio Migueles on guitar. The event is organised by the flamenco club itself in collaboration with Mijas Town Hall.

Also on Friday, Ecologistas en Acción Mijas, as part of its ‘Social Ecology Series for the 21st Century’, is organising an eco-anxiety workshop to help people learn how to manage how they feel about the climate crisis. Led by environmental biologist and psychologist Rocío López, it will take place on Friday 30th October at 19:00 at the Casa Museo in Mijas Pueblo.

Dance

On Sunday 1st November, the La Cala Branch Office will host the Estrellas de Iberia International Festival, scheduled to start from 11:00. On the same day, charity stalls will also be set up in the square outside the branch office from 11:00 to 14:00. The charity initiative will return on 25th and 28th November. This weekend, the Rotary Club will take an active part with its campaign to eradicate polio.

For animal lovers, Cortijo Don Elías in Las Lagunas will host the 4th ACE Málaga Lovebird Competition and Exhibition, an event aimed both at bird enthusiasts and at anyone wishing to learn more about the world of parrots and parakeets. The exhibition will open to the public on 1st November from 09:00.

Halloween

Following the tragic train accident in Toledo and the official mourning declared by the Spanish Government and the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía), the Town Hall has announced the suspension of all activities organised for Halloween in Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas, and La Cala. The local council apologises for any inconvenience caused and thanks residents and visitors for their understanding.

The postponement also affects the ‘horror walk’ organised by AFA Mijas, which will now take place on the afternoon of Saturday 7th November.

Cultural exhibitions

The agenda also includes an art exhibition by ‘Olé’ magazine at the Mijas Arts Centre, scheduled for 1st November from 16:00 to 18:00. The show will continue from 2nd to 8th November, from 13:00 to 16:00, coinciding with other courses taking place.
