This is the 14th year that the Fuengirola school has carried out a reforestation in Mijas

Sometimes in the mountains and sometimes on the coast, but for 14 years now, the Salliver school in Fuengirola has been implementing this initiative together with the Environment Department of Mijas Town Hall.

The idea, said the Biology teacher, Eduardo Pérez, came about because "in the school there is a small greenhouse and there, in the first years, the children sowed the seeds that they later brought to these reforestations. This has continued over time, although for some years now the Mijas Town Hall itself has been providing the plants". The aim, confessed the teacher, "is to make the students aware of the need to respect the environment".

For his part, the councillor for the environment, Marco Cortés, said that "I am proud that they had chosen the municipality to help improve it, we are going to plant fan palm, fennel, clover and marine chrysanthemum trees".

Around one hundred of these indigenous species were planted by this educational community, enriching, without a doubt, an area of great environmental value. This was highlighted by the environmental technician from the Mijas Town Hall, Juan Luis Vega, who said that "we are trying to recover the biodiversity of the land and that is why we have brought some species from the Mediterranean coast".

The students were enthusiastic about the activity and learned a lot of things. It was also a day of coexistence for teachers, students and parents. We are sure that just as these plants will grow, these children will also grow and with great values.
