On Friday morning the nine stalls of the Mijas Pueblo Christmas Market opened their doors and to inaugurate it, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), accompanied by the councillor for Public Roads, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), the area that organises it, and other councillors from the government team, went to see first hand everything that can be found there. 

It is one of the markets that we will be able to enjoy in Mijas this Christmas. It can be visited until the 31st of December from 11 to 19 hours in the Plaza de la Constitución, and has the participation of twelve traders, including artisans and business owners of the town, so it is also an opportunity to provide employment as well as being an incentive for tourism.

"From the Town Hall they have tried to decorate and prepare each corner and area in Mijas so that families can enjoy this special time of the year, " explained the mayoress. For her part, the councillor responsible for the area of Public Roads said that "last year we started and created this market, so we had to continue it because last year it worked quite well. This year we have taken it up again and have been able to add some more decorations, as last year was very rushed".

This is an initiative launched for the second consecutive year that seeks to encourage shopping within our municipality and highlight the work of our traders and artisans, so Mata wanted to "invite all Mijeños to be responsible, and responsible with our businesses. It is important to buy locally, especially because we have a very important and unique commercial sector and artisans". 

The stalls

The stalls are located in a pedestrian area and offer a wide variety of products such as Christmas sweets, wooden crafts, decorations for the Christmas tree, accessories and cold meats. In addition, in some cases, the funds raised with some of the items they sell will go to some charities such as the Association of Relatives of People with Alzheimer's, AFA Mijas. 

"This is my first year, but from what I have been told, last year was very good and what I have been observing is that there is a lot of people in this square, many excursions, so I think it is going to be a good month", said the owner of the Amor a Málaga stall, María Cabello. The artisan Humildad Ríos also has a stand and said that "last year the market had very good results, there was quite a lot of people and quite a Christmas atmosphere and this year we hope it is even better".
