The Local Government Board has approved an agreement by which Mijas Town Hall takes responsibility for almost 310,000 square metres of roads, green areas and three plots in the Riviera del Sol urbanisation. These areas are spread over the 9 phases of the urbanisation, with the exception of zone 3 and 6, which belong to another developer.
In this regard, the councillor for Town Planning, Lourdes Burgos (PP), explained that in this way compliance is given to a ruling of the High Court of Justice of Andalusia (TSJA) in which the measures established that paralysed the transfer of these spaces are annulled. In 2015, an appeal was brought against the municipal agreement which established the acceptance of the spaces, an appeal that reached the TSJA which, finally, has ruled in favour of Mijas.
After going through court, it has now been approved that the Town Hall will be in charge of improving and maintaining both the roads and the green areas, including the Princess Diana Park. In addition, the councillor explained that the three plots of land for facilities total a surface area of more than 31,000 square metres.
"This is a decision that the residents of Riviera have been waiting for a long time and is finally coming to fruition. The Town Hall assumes ownership of the roads, parks and facilities, a step, that can be defined as prior to the reception of this urbanisation, in which more than 6,000 people live", explained Burgos.
