La Majadilla second fire is extinguished Majadilla

  • The fire was very close to the houses

On Tuesday, 26th, Infoca level 1 and the Municipal Emergency Plans were canceled, and the evacuees were able to return to their homes

The fire declared on Tuesday afternoon in the La Majadilla area has been completely extinguished at 3.00 pm, as reported this afternoon by Infoca, indicating that this fire has affected an area of 116 hectares of scrubland and undergrowth. “In just nine days, Mijas has suffered three fires,” said the Mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), on Tuesday 26th, from the command post of the third and the second in La Majadilla del Muerto. This last forest fire was declared at around 3:30 pm that day, was brought under control at 11:00 am on Wednesday 27th, as reported by Infoca on its Twitter account. Once it stabilised at 9:21 pm on Tuesday, level 1 of the Autonomous Community Forest Fire Emergency Plan (Plan Infoca), which was active for five hours, and the Municipal Emergency Plan set up by Mijas Town Hall were deactivated. At the same time, those evicted were allowed to return to their homes. 

Evacuated homes The Mayor said that several tens of houses were evacuated in Vitania, Lagar Martel, La Majadilla and some areas of La Roza, and 11 people sheltered in the Cultural Centre of La Cala, which was set up for this purpose by the Town Hall. González thanked the shopkeepers in the area for offering water, refreshments, and food for the people coming to the Cultural Centre. He also specified that some of the homes of the evacuees were affected. 
The Mayor made these statements from the command post set up in Vitania, where the First Deputy Mayor, José Carlos Martín (Cs), and members of the government team were also present. “It is an area where there are many houses, and the fire with the wind made it jump from one area to another, and that has meant that at some point we had five or six outbreaks,” said Martin.
For her part, the Delegate of the Andalusian Government in the Malaga office, Carmen Casero, said that at 9:00 pm were working in the area 160 personnel and eight aerial resources. Besides Infoca, firefighters from Mijas and the consortium have been working in the area, and the Mijas Local Police and the Mijas Civil Protection, among other devices.
The fire forced the AP-7 to be closed to traffic in both directions due to the smoke from kilometre 201 to 204.

Last fire On Wednesday 27th, the urbanisation of Doña Pilar in Mijas Pueblo was the fourth fire since the one that started in the Sierra de Mijas on the 15th of July. At around 10.45 pm, the alarm raised, and the Mijas Fire Brigade was on the scene to put out the flames with nine forest firemen, an environmental officer and a fire engine. At 11.20 pm ,the area was being refreshed, and at 01.10 am, Infoca declared the fire extinguished.
