The 2021/2022 school year is just around the corner and from the Mijas Local Council they have got down to work to receive it with all the security guarantees. The Education Council in the Mijas Town Hall has announced this week that last Wednesday 25th they have begun with the disinfection and thorough cleaning of the schools for Infant and Primary Education of the municipality, tasks that are the responsibility of the Local Government and for which it has allocated this year 2.2 million euros, once again “making a strong commitment to cleaning and disinfecting the Mijas schools”, as assured by municipal sources.
Fighting the virus The councillor responsible for the Department for Education, Mariló Olmedo (Cs), explained that work is being carried out to eradicate any type of dirt, bacteria or virus. “We are taking advantage of the fact that the students are not yet in the schools to carry out all the necessary tasks to leave all the rooms, patios, surfaces and corners of the Mijas schools free of bacteria and, especially, free of COVID”, said the councillor who added that, “despite the fact that the situation is not as alarming as last year, the council is going to put all its efforts into continuing to fight this pandemic from the classrooms with the maximum guarantees and security”. In this sense, Olmedo stressed that out of the entire amount allocated to cleaning the educational centres, 300,000 euros are dedicated to cleaning tasks as a result of the COVID-19 health crisis, as because of the pandemic, cleaning tasks were implemented throughout the last school year in the mornings to consistently disinfect all contact surfaces and toilets. “In this new course the same formula will be repeated with 25 employees dedicated to cleaning contact surfaces such as doorknobs, railings and toilets, among others, while the children are at school”, said the councillor. In this regard, councillor Olmedo wanted to congratulate and thank “all the cleaning staff for their enormous involvement during the past year as they have effectively fought to safeguard the health of our children and their role has been fundamental and essential”.
