The plenary session of the Mijas Town Hall unanimously approved the basis of the second line of aid on Wednesday 30th, which, in the period of one year, the local government will be able to provide to alleviate the effects of the pandemic.
A new aid plan endowed with 10.3 million euros and that under the name of Cometha (aid to retail trade, tourism companies, hospitality and self-employed workers from Mijas), will be added to the previous one executed by the local government, as announced in plenary session by the mayor Josele González (PSOE); the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs); and the councillor for Employment, Laura Moreno (PSOE) ”.
The mayor pointed out that “after the success of the OREA Plan, from which 3,528 companies have benefited, now, with the approval of the Cometha Plan basis, we are taking another step to support our business and tourism fabric”. Thus, in just one year, the local Administration makes a total of 22.3 million available to companies and the self-employed in the form of direct aid, compatible with that of other administrations.
For his part, Martín, who recalled that this is possible thanks to having a surplus of more than 100 million, pointed out: “In Mijas we are at the head of all administrations in terms of aid by number of inhabitants and not only that, also in the speed in paying them”.
Employment and Tourism
The plan, which will be competitive, will thus be divided into two lines, Cometha Employment, with aid worth 8.5 million and Cometha Tourism, with 1.8 million aimed at tourism companies.
The first of the lines will have grants of up to 6,000 euros depending on the number of employees. The second of the lines will have grants of up to 50,000 euros depending on the type of tourist accommodation and up to 75,000 in the case of golf courses depending on the number of holes.
For Moreno “with this new plan we take measures to protect the productive fabric of the town, with the firm objective of working in favour of the recovery and growth of those companies that despite going through financial difficulties are viable because they have a plan that is feasible on the medium term and a suitable business model”.
Among the main requirements, the companies and freelancers that access the aid must have had their turnover reduced in 2021 by at least 30% compared to 2019, as well as that the activity must be carried out in Mijas.
The basis of this plan were unanimously approved by all groups. However, during the debate prior to the vote, the popular party assured that they would abstain because said call has an unfavourable report by the municipal secretary and auditor. Thus, the PP spokesman, Ángel Nozal, before changing the direction of his vote, assured that “this is something ethically laudable, which I fully support morally, but the auditor and the secretary say that it is an improper competition”.
Similarly, the popular party vice-spokesperson, Lourdes Burgos, recalled that “the guarantors of legality in this plenary session and in this corporation are the general controller and the municipal secretary”.
For his part, the mayor of Mijas responded that the plan counts “with a legal report, which is in the file, and which reports favourably on the Cometha plan”.
