The Mijas Town Hall is set to reinforce its commitment to the Cudeca Foundation by launching new collaborations related to volunteer programmes, training and employability initiatives. These measures will complement the annual subsidy dedicated to home care for people with primarily oncological ailments.
This was announced on Tuesday 11th by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), after meeting with the manager of the Cudeca Foundation, Marisa Martín, to review the foundation’s activity in the municipality between January and September this year. The meeting was also attended by the councillor for Social Inclusion, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), and Cudeca’s grants manager, Nuria Rivas.
So far this year, 124 people residing in Mijas have joined the Cudeca Foundation’s care programmes, “in addition to the 40 who joined last year”, explained the manager of Cudeca, “so we estimate that we will end the year with around 180 beneficiaries in this municipality”. Martín also stated that “in the last two years, there has been a 30% increase in users in Mijas”.
For her part, the mayoress recalled that in 2024, the Town Hall’s grant to the Cudeca Foundation amounted to 40,000 euros for activities related to home care for patients and their families. In this regard, she announced that under the new General Subsidy Ordinance, this amount could be increased depending on the project submitted, and encouraged Cudeca to expand its work proposals in areas that also promote training for employment.

“The Town Hall renews its subsidy to Cudeca every year to guarantee resources that are then multiplied by the dedication and passion that employees and volunteers put in every day. Joan Hunt’s legacy is eternal”, stressed the mayoress.
Mata praised the work of the care teams, made up of doctors, nurses, psychologists and social workers, “who provide comprehensive care to people in need and also to their families, which is very important”.
Charity shop in Mijas
The Cudeca Foundation has a charity shop in La Cala de Mijas, which opened in 2021 in premises provided by the Town Hall, enabling it to increase its financial resources through the sale of products. "The work of volunteers is essential to the success of Cudeca and the Mijas Town Hall will always be there", said the mayoress.
Finally, the manager of the Cudeca Foundation thanked the Mijas Town Hall for its “constant and unwavering support” and highlighted the municipality’s solidarity with the care programmes that are carried out throughout the year”.
'You Are a Key Piece' campaign
Coinciding with the 20th anniversary of its Hospitalisation Unit, the Cudeca Foundation has launched a new fundraising campaign called 'You Are a Key Piece'. "If we can all work together to complete the puzzle, we will raise the 355.000 euros we need to continue caring for 245 people with dignity and professionalism", said Martín.
