Mijas Town Hall, through the Foreigners’ Department, has organised a wide-ranging programme for September and October.The councillor for the department, Mario Bravo (PP), presented the programme on the morning of Thursday 17th September and emphasised that “the Foreigners’ Department is always very active in ensuring that the needs of the foreign resident community are met; that is why it is organising four events that we believe are quite important and well worth highlighting”.
During the second half of September, two initiatives aimed at the wider international and business community in the municipality and on the Costa del Sol will take place.
September
The first of these events will be the 3rd Costa del Sol International Business Networking Event, to be held on Tuesday 22nd September, from 18:00, at Chaparral Golf Club. “It is a gathering of business associations wishing to promote their activities and facilitate an exchange of both experiences and projects on the Costa del Sol”, explained Bravo. The event, organised by Mijas Town Hall’s Foreigners Department in collaboration with various networking groups on the Costa del Sol, aims to facilitate contact between professionals and businesspeople, showcase products, services and expertise, as well as share local market trends and generate new opportunities for collaboration. Tickets must be purchased in advance; they cost 20 euros and include a tapa and drinks.
A week later, on 29th September, the Foreigners’ Department will hold an informative talk in English entitled ‘Living well in Spain starts with getting the essentials right’. The event will take place at 16:00 in the conference hall at the La Cala Town Hall Branch Office; admission is free and open to all. It will be delivered in English. During the session, issues of interest to foreign residents will be addressed. According to the head of Blacktower Mijas, Ilse Liebrechts, “we’re going to talk a bit about everything, for example, residency, Form 120, inheritances… things that foreign residents who have just arrived here may not yet be aware of, and we’re here to help and provide further information”.
Information will also be provided on tourist licences and taxes for non-residents, as well as issues relating to Spanish wills and inheritances. The event will include a specific section on financial planning for women. “This time we want to focus a little more on women, as it is often the case that their husbands pass away or they separate, and they haven’t properly organised their financial affairs beforehand, that’s where we want to place a little more emphasis”, said the manager. Booking is recommended.
This department is also reviving the solidarity tables in collaboration with groups, associations and NGOs, which set up stalls to offer various types of gifts and products to raise funds. In September, it will take place on the 26th and 30th, and in October on the 28th and 31st, outside the La Cala Town Hall Branch Office.
October
In October, the traditional Royal British Legion parade, a real classic in La Cala, is scheduled for the 17th. The meeting point will be La Butibamba Park, from where the parade will set off through the main streets of this urban centre in Mijas.
One of the most eye-catching events this autumn will be the International Conference on AI, which will be held in English at CIOMijas on 23rd October from 09:00 to 14:00. Attendees will be able to learn how to integrate artificial intelligence into their businesses effectively, using established tools. Admission is free, but due to the venue’s limited capacity, places must be booked via email at frd@mijas.es. The deadline for applications is 20th October.
Finally, Bravo concluded by stating that “the foreign community does not come here just to retire or to live; they also come to work and to boost economic activity, and we believe that the support the Town Hall can provide through the Foreigners’ Department is important”.
