The works include the rehabilitation of networks, improvements to wastewater treatment pants and the upgrading of the Marbella desalination plant

Acosol will modernise water infrastructure on the Costa del Sol thanks to 75 million euros in funding from the European Investment Bank (EIB). This investment will enable the rehabilitation of critical points in the sanitation network currently suffering from leaks and seawater infiltration.

In Mijas, the work will focus on upgrading the wastewater treatment plants at La Cala and Cerros del Águila. These measures will represent a significant step forward in the efficiency of the municipal water system, as highlighted by the councillor for Infrastructure and Works, Juan José Torres Trella (PP): “These improvements will mean that, through the new reclaimed water supply networks, it will be possible to irrigate different areas of the municipality more efficiently and in a healthier way”.

In addition to these projects, the municipality will also benefit from the planned upgrade to the Marbella desalination plant, a key piece of infrastructure for the water supply on the Western Costa del Sol. According to the councillor, this desalination plant “will be upgraded to reduce consumption through the use of energy-efficient systems, such as solar panels, thereby improving the water supply in the area, including Mijas”.

These investments are complemented by other measures under the sanitation improvement plan funded by Acosol’s water levy. Of particular note is the project to supply drinking water to Mijas Pueblo from the southern part of Las Lagunas, an initiative he described as “very important”, adding that “we are talking about a project involving an investment of over 10 million euros”.
