Asian seaweed has appeared once again this summer on the shores of the entire Andalusian coastline, and Mijas is no exception to this problem. The Mijas Town Hall, in fact, dedicates eight hours of night-time work every night to remove this waste.
The councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), stated that “around 1,600 tonnes have already been collected since Easter along the entire Mijas coastline, which points to a new record, as last year some 2,700 tonnes were removed from the beaches”. Teruel also stated that all these collection and clean-up tasks come at a financial cost: “In fact, last year alone we invested more than 1.2 million euros in this work”, he said.
