Mijas Civil Protection volunteers, joined by the Councillor for the Fire Service and Civil Protection, Francisco Jerez (Vox), recently took part in practical training sessions. This completed a course accredited by the Regional Government of Andalusia, which began months ago with an online theoretical phase. The event brought together members of various Civil Protection units from Andalusia and caddressed key aspects of emergency response.

During the practical sessions, participants received training in first aid, firefighting and emergency telecommunications. The module dedicated to fire suppression took place at the Marbella Fire Station, where volunteers carried out drills in hose handling, the use of extinguishing equipment, and live fire control under the supervision of professional firefighters.

Ongoing training

Jerez emphasised that this type of activity is essential for maintaining the local group’s operational capacity. “Our volunteers do exemplary work in the service of local residents and it is vital that they receive ongoing, high-quality training. These practical sessions allow them to acquire knowledge and experience that can prove decisive when faced with a real emergency”, he explained.

Collaboration

The councillor also highlighted the value of sharing experiences with groups from other Andalusian municipalities. “Coordination and the exchange of knowledge among volunteers greatly enrich this type of training. The Town Hall will continue to support all initiatives that contribute to improving Civil Protection’s preparedness and response capacity”, he said.

These sessions form part of the training programme organised by the Civil Protection department to keep its volunteers’ skills up to date. In this regard, Jerez has announced that the initiative will continue in the coming weeks. “In the coming days, our volunteers will take part in a new training module. We want them to have the best possible knowledge and tools to continue providing an effective service to the people of Mijas when they need it most”, he concluded.
