The accolade recognises the work carried out during the severe storms that hit the municipality this past winter

The Mijas Fire Brigade has received an honorary mention from Casares Town Hall in recognition of its efforts during the floods last February, when successive storms caused significant disruption across the municipality, particularly in El Secadero.

The distinction was presented during an official ceremony held at the Blas Infante Cultural Centre in Casares. The event also recognised various organisations, law enforcement agencies, emergency services, municipal staff, and volunteers who took part in the operation deployed to manage the emergency and ensure public safety.

Pride

The councillor responsible for the Mijas Fire Service, Francisco Jerez (Vox), emphasised that “this recognition is a source of pride for the whole of Mijas and for professionals who, once again, have demonstrated their commitment, preparedness and dedication to service when they are needed most”, highlighting the swift response provided by the Mijas brigade during those particularly difficult days.

Collaboration

Jerez also thanked Casares Town Hall for the award and underlined the importance of collaboration between local authorities and emergency services, noting that “emergencies demonstrate that coordination between municipalities and response units services is essential to protect residents and provide an effective response to situations as complex as those we experienced during those floods”. He also extended his congratulations to all the professionals and volunteers who took part in the operation deployed during the emergency.

During the heavy rains in February, various emergency services worked in a coordinated manner to handle incidents, ensure public safety and minimise the impact of rainfall that caused significant material damage and disruption in several municipalities across the province.

Congratulations

The Mijas Town Hall extended its congratulations to the members of the Fire and Rescue Service for this distinction, which recognises the effort, professionalism, and dedication demonstrated by the brigade during one of the most significant emergencies recorded this year in the region.
