It was in 1986 that Aquamijas first opened its doors to provide fun for all ages during the summer months; today, it has established itself as a leading destination for families on the Costa del Sol. Last Friday, the 1st of May, marked the start of the new season, a particularly special one as the park celebrates 40 years of entertaining families from Mijas and across the province. To mark the occasion, a special 50% discount on tickets was offered on the opening day.
The general manager of this water park, María del Mar Asensio, explained some of the new features for this 40th anniversary: “We have placed great emphasis on entertainment and leisure, so that when people visit the park, they can not only enjoy the water slides but also have other options for a more complete day out”. Entertainment, face painting for children, aqua aerobics, a DJ in the afternoon… these are just some of the new additions. In addition, “we’ve launched our 40th-anniversary menu in the restaurant. It’s a more affordable option to mark our 40 years, and throughout the season there will be promotions, competitions and prize draws to celebrate our four decades here on the coast”.

Impact on the municipality
Members of the government team were present on the opening day and emphasised the park's economic and employment significance for the area. The councillor for Finance, Mario Bravo (PP), noted that “many of those working here are young students, allowing them to work through the summer months and at weekends so they can continue their studies during the winter. It is an ideal job for the youth of Mijas. We are very proud of how the park is managed and how it operates”. His colleague, the councillor for Procurement and Infrastructure, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), provided an estimate for this season’s expected attendance, stating that “we currently have a maximum capacity of 3,200 people, we’re talking about approximately 90%; there are usually around 2,800 here during high season, that is, the school holiday months of in July and August”.
It is undoubtedly a place to create memories through experiences that combine adrenaline and fun, to be enjoyed with family or friends. The park will remain open until the 30th of September.
