The councillor for Beaches at the Mijas Town Hall, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), visited El Bombo beach on Tuesday 9th, where sand replenishment and regeneration work is ongoing. These tasks, which have been underway for a month at various points along the Mijas coastline, involve a municipal investment of around 250,000 euros, “to bring in sand and machinery and ensure the coastline is back in perfect condition in a short space of time, with the assistance of the Coastal Authority (Demarcación de Costas), which also continues to work on our beaches”.
Work is currently focused on El Bombo and Los Cordobeses beaches, the councillor noted, adding that “we expect to be here until the end of the week”. Gómez Teruel also recalled that “we have also worked in the areas of El Sheriff, El Capricho and Alhamar, where we have added cubic metres of sand to widen these beaches”.

Emergency works
At the same time, the councillor announced that emergency works will begin next week on three sections of the Coastal Path affected by winter storms. “Two of these are part of the previous emergency plan, Rocas del Mar and El Océano, alongside the Las Mimosas area”, he listed, adding that “the idea is to work on all three sites simultaneously to shorten the timeframe”.
In this regard, the councillor for Beaches took the opportunity to appeal for responsibility from those using the path, especially when approaching sections that are closed or cordoned off. “Please be respectful when you cordon tape or fencing, because we prioritise safety above all else, and nothing ever happens until it does”, he concluded.
