The Mijas Town Hall has now formalised the contract for the maintenance of the facilities at the Mijas Grand Park. The successful bidder is Clece, which will be responsible for the maintenance of all facilities and equipment, such as the technical rooms, the cleaning of fountains and lakes, the ‘splash park’ (water play area), as well as the water supply, sanitation, electricity, telecommunications and lighting networks. This contract is worth 1.3 million euros.

The Infrastructure Department has reported that the contract will remain in force until 2028, although the text provides for the possibility of up to two extensions, reaching a maximum term until 2030. This award marks a significant step forward in providing the essential technical resources for the correct operation and maintenance of what is the largest urban park in Andalusia, covering an area of 270,000 square metres.
Improvements to the contract
It is worth noting that the successful bidder included three improvements to the contract in its tender. Firstly, specific machinery for cleaning the lake bed –a cordless robot specially designed for large areas, with a capacity of 1,200 square metres per battery charge. Secondly, the installation and commissioning of a public address system, which will enhance safety and improve communication with the users of the Grand Park. Thirdly, the installation and maintenance of prefabricated units for the storage of tools and machinery, with a minimum total area of 30 square metres, distributed across one or more units.
Waste management plan
Furthermore, the contract stipulates that the successful bidder is obliged to submit a waste management plan setting out the intended disposal of waste generated during the various works carried out under the aforementioned award. It will be mandatory to separate organic waste from inorganic waste, and priority will be given to reuse; for example, the shredding of pruning waste for composting and its use as mulch or organic fertiliser.
Traffic control
The successful bidder will also be responsible for the provision and cost of the measures necessary to maintain road and pedestrian traffic in the streets surrounding the Mijas Grand Park that may be affected by the tasks required to provide the service. This includes coordination with the Local Police, temporary vertical and horizontal signage, traffic marshals, and public notices or announcements during the period of the works.
