The councillor for Economy and Finance, Mario Bravo (PP), announced on Thursday 5th that the voluntary payment period for taxes and fees will begin on the 16th of March, when “the property tax (IBI) bills will reach the bank, followed by the waste collection fee on the 6th of April and the road tax (IVTM) on the 4th of May”. The councillor added that “for those whose receipts are returned for any reason, they will be sent again 90 days later, at the beginning of June, July and August, respectively”. On the 4th of May, the payment of other fees will also be processed, such as those for the occupation of public roads with tables and chairs or kiosks, driveways (vados), loading and unloading zones, municipal markets, and bank ATMs. The voluntary payment period for all periodic (annual) taxes will extend until the 20th of November.
Bravo also explained that, although the aim is to meet deadlines rigorously, some bills may arrive later, especially in the case of accounts held abroad.
Citizens have three ways to meet their tax obligations: at the Tax Collection Office, ‘Recaudación’, in any municipal building, using a digital certificate via the electronic office (www.mijas.es) or via the payment platform https://pagosexpress.mijas.es/.
Source of income
The collection of fees and taxes accounts for more than 50% of municipal income, and the Town Hall grants a 5% discount to those who pay by direct debit, which is the maximum authorised by law. According to the councillor, “the fact that residents cooperate by allowing direct debit generates a 5% discount that we apply directly, which is the maximum discount allowed by law”. Finally, Bravo assured that “Mijas needs the cooperation of all citizens, and we are at their disposal to ensure this is carried out”.
