The Cortijo Don Elías housed more than 600 birds from Spain and Portugal

Last weekend, the Cortijo Don Elías hosted more than 600 birds from Spain and Portugal in the third edition of the ACE Málaga 2025 Competition, an event that brought together breeders and enthusiasts of psittacines and lovebirds. The competition was organised by the Department of Livestock, together with the Agapornis Club España Association (ACE Málaga) and the Andalusian Ornithological Federation (FOA). “We are very pleased with this third edition, especially because they counted on the Town Hall to organise it”, said the councillor for the area, Eloy Belmonte (Vox).

These birds fly freely every day in the countryside, which is essential for their well-being. Daily exercise helps them avoid depression, muscle loss and stress, which in extreme cases can lead to feather plucking or even self-harm.

‘‘What we focus on most in the competition”, added the president of ACE Málaga, Salvador Martín, “are colours, which in technical terms are called mutations. Here, we admire the beauty of the bird”.

On the final day, the birds were evaluated and prizes were awarded to the best participants, recognising the quality and diversity of the birds taking part. With specimens from Spain and Portugal, the ACE Málaga 2025 Competition concluded leaving organisers, participants and visitors with a strong sense of success. The event once again placed Mijas on the map for lovebird breeders.

Finally, at the closing ceremony of the competition, Belmonte reminded everyone that the club "is based in Mijas, which means that many of the breeders who have exhibited their birds here are local residents and have won many prizes, so I think we have set the bar quite high and are already thinking about a possible fourth edition". The councillor said he was very "satisfied, because the birds that contributed the most were national birds, and those from Mijas were the most awarded".
