The Mijas Town Hall has launched a new call for applications to strengthen the Local Police force with a total of 13 positions, ten of which are for new recruit officers and three for senior officers to be promoted from within the force. This measure aims to strengthen security, ensure the operational continuity of the service, and maintain a solid and balanced command structure.
These positions will fill existing vacancies in the workforce, ensuring, according to the Town Hall, "that the force maintains its full capacity across all areas of the municipality". Currently, the Mijas Local Police has 144 officers and commanders, of whom 121 are basic-level police officers. Once the process is complete, the force will have 131 active officers, while maintaining the number of commanders through internal promotion to replace those due to retire.

A more agile and effective service
The councillor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), emphasised that "this call for applications is very good news for Mijas because it will improve shift coverage, alleviate the workload of officers and offer a more agile and effective service to our residents".
He also stressed that "with the addition of new officers, we will strengthen security in all areas of the municipality, especially those with the highest population and tourist activity, where police presence is essential for the peaceful coexistence and tranquillity of the residents of Mijas".

Requirements
The rules for both calls for applications have been published in the corresponding official gazettes: the ten police officer positions in the Official Gazette of the Province of Málaga (BOPMA) and the three senior officer positions in the Official State Gazette (BOE).
The deadline for submitting applications is the 29th of October, and registrations must be made exclusively online via the Mijas Town Hall website.
The requirements to apply for the officer positions include Spanish nationality, being at least 18 years of age, holding a Baccalaureate or Technical qualification, and possessing A2 and B driving licences, as well as passing the physical, psychotechnical, medical and theoretical tests set out in the rules.
Selection
Once the selection process and the entry course at the Andalusian Institute of Emergencies and Public Safety have been completed, the new officers are expected to join active service in 2026, thereby strengthening the municipal security service.
All information, the complete rules and access to the registration form are available on the municipal website (www.mijas.es), under the 'Empleo Público' section, as well as on the official notice board of the Town Hall.
Finally, Cuevas concluded cuncluded that "strengthening our Local Police is an investment in security, coexistence, and well-being for all the residents of Mijas".
