  • Among the events is the British Legion parade in La Cala on October 4th
  • El edil de Extranjeros, Mario Bravo, y las técnicos del departamento, Katja Thirion y Laura Córdoba, junto a Minerva Quijera, de Toastmasters Costa del Soul Speakers.

In collaboration with the Lions Club, the 7th Walk Against Diabetes is being organised on November 2nd, followed by the Christmas Fair on November 30th

The Mijas Foreigners' Department continues the work it began more than 40 years ago, as highlighted on Wednesday at a press conference by the councillor responsible for the department, Mario Bravo (PP): "From the department, we analyse the needs and offer activities to support all those citizens who have a different language and culture to ours, but of whom we are proud".

In fact, on Wednesdays in September, the coworking meetings organised by the international group Costa Women have already begun at the Play Mijas Restaurant, with the next sessions scheduled for the 17th and 24th.

This month's programme also includes a meeting where the Toastmasters International Costa del Soul Speakers association will be officially presented. "On the 16th of September, we are organising an open day at the La Cala Branch Office, where everyone can experience first-hand what we say is our motto: we want to enjoy public speaking. Everyone will be able to see how we do it, how we learn, how we practise and how we develop these skills while having a great time", explained the vice-president of the group, Minerva Quijera, who added that "it is a space to connect with other people and other cultures, to network; it is not just about public speaking, it involves many other skills", and thanked the Mijas Town Hall and the municipal department "for opening their doors to us".

Solidarity tables

The department also encourages us to make solidarity our gift this year, continuing the successful charity tables. These are held on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month, from 11 to 14 hours, in the La Cala Branch Office Square.

British Legion

In October, the programme of activities includes one of the most notable events: the British Legion parade, also in La Cala, on the 4th of October. "It is a very significant event for the British, who are the largest foreign nationality in Mijas. It was held last year and we believe it is very important for all residents, many of whom are members of the British Legion", explained Bravo. The parade, which is part of the Poppy Appeal charity event, will start at 14 hours from La Butibamba Park.

Informative talks

As has been customary in the quarterly planning of this municipal department since its creation 40 years ago, the programme includes providing information to foreign residents on issues affecting their daily lives in Spain. On this occasion, the programme includes a talk in English, on the 14th of October, discussing updates to the Tourist Apartments Law. It will be given by José Luis Navarro, from Intercala, in the assembly hall of the La Cala Branch Office, starting at 16 hours. There will also be another talk in German entitled 'How to enjoy life in old age', which will take place on the 21st of October at 16 hours at the same location, given by Christiane Rudigier and Jutta Tackmaan. "In fact, all the activities organised by the Foreigners' Department are aimed at the general public. They are offered in English, but any Spanish resident can attend", clarified the councillor.

Lions Club

Finally, there are two events in November in collaboration with the Lions Club: the 7th Walk Against Diabetes, which will start on Sunday 2nd at 10 hours from the Plaza del Torreón, and the Christmas Fair, scheduled for the 30th in La Butibamba Park, from 11 to 16 hours. "The Foreigners Department is very proud to collaborate with all these associations on these activities. Hopefully, we can continue like this for many years and soon celebrate our 50th anniversary", concluded Bravo.
