The trip organised each year by the Senior Citizens Department for Mijas pensioners is fast approaching. On the morning of Tuesday 9th, a public draw was held to allocate the 1,600 places available, which will be divided into four groups and take place in the coastal town of Matalascañas in Huelva.
The plenary hall of the Mijas Town Hall was the venue chosen for the drawing of the balls that determined the last four digits of the file number from which the list of successful applicants will be drawn in ascending order, starting with number 13,271. The Mijas Town Hall explained that of the 2,045 applications submitted, 1,798 met the requirements and were included in this draw. However, they wanted to reassure all applicants. "I would like to call for calm and ask people not to think or listen to what third parties say. Normally, everyone who meets the requirements usually travels, as in the past, when there were 1,500 places and a waiting list, but normally everyone went. There are usually some dropouts among those admitted", said the councillor for Senior Citizens, Silvia Marín (PP), who stressed that the trip has been awarded this year at a cost of 652,912 euros. This means that the Town Hall's investment per person for this trip is 408.07 euros and 816.14 euros per couple.
The councillor explained that "there are more and more senior citizens" and, as an example, said that this year 548 new pensioner cards have been issued. "We are in the midst of a retirement boom and, although we hold them in high esteem and want to look after our senior citizens, we must understand that we cannot use the entire Town Hall budget", Marín stressed.
The councillor specified that the first 400 applications, starting from number 13,271, will go in the first shift; the next 400 will go in the second shift, and so on until all the places are filled. However, the Senior Citizens Department clarified that when the list of applications reaches the last one registered, number 14,682, the allocation will continue with the first one, number 11,238, always taking into account that the aim is to avoid separating retired couples who want to travel together. Therefore, if there is only one place available in that shift, it will be filled with the next file of an individual traveller. Similarly, it was explained that a person awarded a place in one shift may travel in another shift provided they find another person awarded a place in that shift who is willing to swap with them.

List of successful applicants
The list of successful applicants will be published shortly. The coordinator of the Senior Citizens Department, Mercedes Gálvez, explained that the allocation is made by file number rather than by registration number. "When the provisional list [of those who met the requirements] was released, senior citizens were able to see a list with an associated number and their file number. They have their registration number on the receipt, but places are allocated by file number. Everything can be checked on the first list, which will be in alphabetical order, and on the second list, which will be by file number", clarified Gálvez.
Both the allocation of places and the shoft and seat are awarded in the order of the draw, as stipulated in the rules. In addition, along with the publication of the list, the date and place of payment will also be announced. The official cost of the trip is 6.50 euros per person per stay, and payment will be made either at the Mijas Town Hall's senior citizens offices using a bank card or by bank transfer.
