The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), announced on Monday 18th that the Town Hall has now taken delivery of the Gran Parque works. The local Town Hall is therefore taking over the infrastructure, which the local executive highlights as “set to become the green area of the Costa del Sol”.
“This is great news as it means the works have been completed. We have made some modifications to the initial project to improve operational efficiency and ensure that the result is what we all expect”, explained the mayoress.
Regarding the maintenance of this large infrastructure, it should be remembered that the Town Hall put it out to tender for a total of 2.7 million euros per year for three years. The tender was divided into three lots: gardening maintenance (2.35 million euros per year), security (392,000 euros) and conservation and maintenance of facilities and equipment (544,000 euros). The aim is to reduce costs by distributing the operation of services across different concessions.

Once the three lots have been awarded, an open day is planned so that local residents can visit the facility.

In terms of facilities, the Gran Parque includes basketball and five-a-side football pitches, a dog park in the southern area and an amphitheatre with capacity for 1,500 people for cultural and festive activities. There are also five children’s play areas, a skate park, a splash park and bio-healthy equipment throughout the area. All this is complemented by a large navigable lake.
The Gran Parque stretches in lenght from the cemetery grounds to the Cerros del Águila residential area and in width as far as the vicinity of Venta de La Morena. In a second phase, with the project due to be approved in September, access will be improved with two bridges over the Fuengirola River.
