The work will continue until the end of the month, including earthmoving in the surrounding area

The Mijas Town Hall, through the Parks and Gardens Department, is improving the area around the La Cala  municipal swimming pool following the completion and acceptance of the works. The work is still ongoing, as it is being carried out in several phases, but the first results are already visible. The project is based on xeriscaping principles, aiming for efficiency and savings in both water and energy. The surrounding area is being completely transformed. The opening of the municipal swimming pool in La Cala has revitalised the area, and with the arrival of users, the Town Hall saw the need to enhance and beautify the surroundings.

According to the councillor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Goméz Teruel (PP), “after opening the swimming pool in La Cala, we saw that that the surrounding area needed a touch of colour and greenery, which is already characteristic of our municipality. We are continuing in the same vein, using low-maintenance, fast-growing trees and plants that will provide shade quickly and enhance the area”.

  • Las mejoras en el entorno continuarán durante el mes, con la premisa de ahorrar el máximo posible de agua y energía.

Specifically, a large number of flowers, shrubs and new trees have already been planted in the area, sourced from the municipal nursery, thanks to compensation for tree felling or relocation. According to the councillor, “we have planted more than 600 oleanders grown in our municipal nursery, and we have paulownia trees, which are very fast-growing, broad-leaved trees that we obtained as compensation for felling carried out by the Town Hall. In addition, we have reused trees that were removed during the renovation of the roundabout at the entrance to La Cala”.

Improvements to the area will continue for the rest of the month, with the priority being to save as much water and energy as possible, and always using drip irrigation and careful water management. In addition, this department is also working with Operational Services to coordinate the movement and management of soil in the area. Gómez Teruel stated that “there is still some work to be done in the area. We have to continue installing drip irrigation to keep water consumption to a minimum. We remain very committed to energy savings and to achieving zero water leaks”.

  • Se utiliza la técnica de la xerojardinería para el ahorro máximo de agua y energía.
