As of August 19th, municipal revenue from Property Tax (IBI) stands at 45 million euros; 6 million euros from the Rubbish Collection and Solid Waste Treatment Tax and 5 million euros from the Motor Vehicle Tax (IVTM), totalling 52,392,724 euros. “The percentages have increased, we are at 65% for IBI and 70% for rubbish, although we are still close to 32% for road tax”, said the councillor for Finance at the Mijas Town Hall, Mario Bravo (PP), who reminded residents that the voluntary payment period ends on the 20th of November, after which bills will be subject to surcharges and penalties.
Regarding these figures, Bravo wanted to “thank all those taxpayers who have made it easier for us to collect payments and, in return, receive a 5% discount”, referring to those citizens who have opted to pay these bills by direct debit (of the 52 million euros collected so far, almost 31 million euros have been collected via direct debit). He also encouraged those who have not yet done so to consider it for next year, highlighting that, “as a new feature”, this procedure can now be carried out completely “securely through the new electronic office”, rather than, as previously, “via emails” sent to the relevant Town Hall department “where citizens had no guarantee that their data had been processed correctly”.
Although these three periodic taxes are the most significant, the Town Hall also manages fees for the occupation of public roads with tables and chairs, kiosks, no-parking areas loading and unloading zones, the municipal market and bank ATMs.
How to pay taxes
There are two much quicker and more convenient ways to pay online. With a digital certificate or electronic ID through the Electronic Office; and without a certificate, via the Pagosexpress platform, which is only valid for the payment of outstanding bills during the voluntary period.
In addition, taxes and fees can be paid in person at the Citizen Services and Tax Collection Offices of the Mijas Town Hall and at the branch offices in Las Lagunas and La Cala.

- De forma presencial se puede realizar en el Ayuntamiento de Mijas y tenencias de alcaldía de La Cala y Las Lagunas.
- Jacobo Perea.
Bravo highlighted the importance of paying these taxes, which, together with “the collection of urban development taxes and the share of State revenue” are essential for providing various services, including the maintenance of green areas, streets, street lighting, and water supply. “All this can be seen on the Town Hall’s website in the budget section, where there is a detailed breakdown of how we spend the money received from all the residents of Mijas”, he added, noting that “the growth of the municipal register in Mijas is ensuring that this increase in revenue is constant and continuous, and we will soon reach 100,000 people”.
