The municipality of Mijas obtains a new Blue Flag, which joins the four it already had. In this way, there will be five beaches with this Blue Flag, which validates the excellence of its services and the state of its beaches. Specifically, the beaches of Calahonda-Riviera (new), Calahonda-Royal Beach-La Luna, El Chaparral, El Bombo and La Cala will fly this prestigious emblem this year.
The distinctions are awarded annually by the ‘Asociación de Educación Ambiental y del Consumidor’ (Adeac). In order to obtain the award, an exhaustive evaluation of parameters as diverse as water quality, environmental management, safety, information and accessibility is carried out. In the Mijas coastline examined, these requirements have been met, as was announced on Thursday 8th in a statement issued by the entity. For this reason, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), thanked the efforts of the people who work on the beaches to maintain their excellence, as they are one of the main attractions from the point of view of tourism, leisure and environment of the municipality. The mayoress pointed out that the people in charge of the Beaches Department “work tirelessly every day of the year to ensure that our coastline is a benchmark”.
“The fact that we have been awarded a new Blue Flag is a source of pride and encourages us to keep working to make the Mijas coastline a benchmark for the entire Spanish coast. It is also a very gratifying endorsement for all the workers who with tenacity and a lot of effort and affection carry out their work every day”, said Mata. She also emphasised that there are various sectors involved that also play an essential role in the maintenance and upkeep of the beaches, such as entrepreneurs, lifeguards, cleaning staff and police officers, to name a few.
For his part, the councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), also highlighted the fact that Mijas has a new Blue Flag, which is the result of “continuous and joint effort”.
