With the goal of exercising both body and mind, the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer patients of Fuengirola and Mijas Costa has been offering a Pilates workshop open to all citizens since last year. Led by instructor Vitaly Reina, the classes are held every Monday and Wednesday afternoon from 17:30 to 18:30 hours, priced at €30 per month with a limit of 10 spaces. "The sessions begin with a short warm-up, followed by various exercises using a ball and rings to work on strength, and we finish with muscle stretches to ensure the body stays relaxed", explained Reina.
Pilates is a low-impact form of exercise with no age or fitness level restrictions. It involves stretching and strengthening muscles to gradually improve joint flexibility, reduce stiffness, and alleviate muscle tension.
Practising Pilates also offers multiple benefits, including improved posture and stability, helping to prevent back and neck problems, and reducing the risk of falls and injuries. Additionally, the social aspect of these activities fosters social interaction, contributing to our mental and emotional health.
