The Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's patients and other Dementias of Fuengirola-Mijas Costa has launched a comprehensive care project for both patients and caregivers thanks to a grant from the La Caixa Foundation. The subsidised project is called 'T.Cuidamos', and will include psychological support services and individual physical therapy sessions for Alzheimer's patients, but also for their relatives and caregivers.
The amount subsidised is 22,219 euros and is part of the 2024 call for social projects by territory. The first programme includes the hiring of an additional physiotherapist and psychosocial support will be offered once a week to relatives and caregivers of patients.
The vice-president of the association, Charo Mena, said: "I would like to thank the La Caixa Foundation for approving the comprehensive care project. I would also like to thank the town halls of Fuengirola and Mijas for their support and I ask the general public and the administrations to continue supporting us, as we need a lot of help to maintain the centre".

AFA assures that "the main objective is to improve the quality of life of this group. We want to give direct attention to mental and physical health. The main reason for carrying out this project is due to the fact that the entity attends to more than 110 users".
The second subsidised project includes an item for equipment of 5,000 euros for the Adolfo Suárez Day Centre and Residence. This grant has been used to purchase a standing lift, two interactive screens and a laptop. Blinds have also been installed in one room.
According to social worker Emilio Jaimen, “with these two projects, we have received subsidies for equipment for the headquarters and the comprehensive care project, which we are already developing in the association”.

La Caixa is inviting the different social groups to present their projects in order to obtain these lines of subsidies in Andalusia. This was stated by the territorial head of the foundation in Andalusia, Juan Carlos Barroso, who encouraged all the groups "to also present their projects, as we have 7.5 million euros every year in Andalusia, and last year we approved 278 projects".
