It is estimated that around 40,000 British citizens live in the province of Malaga, of which 8,000 live in Mijas. With the aim of informing them about matters of their interest, the newspaper Sur in English, together with the British consular services in Spain and the Marbella Town Hall, organised an informative event which was held on Friday 4th of April in the Palacio de Congresos of this town on the Costa del Sol.
The event was attended by representatives of the Mijas Foreigners Department with the aim of gathering as much information as possible in order to advise British residents who require their services in our town.
The conference was held under the title ‘UK Residents in Spain. Advice and information for established, new and future residents’. The event was attended by law firms and insurance companies, whose experts were responsible for providing information on the many issues that affect these citizens, from residence permits to welfare.
TIE
One of the key messages emphasised at this meeting was to remind all British citizens resident in Spain who do not yet have the TIE (Foreigner’s Identity Card, which is the residence document that allows British citizens to live in our country after Brexit), to apply for it as soon as possible, they can do so at the immigration office of the province where they live or at the police station. This document is essential to avoid any complications arising from the recently introduced EU Entry and Exit System (EES).
