The students of the Ark Christian Schoool celebrated Andalusia Day on Friday

In the 2008-2009 academic year, The Ark Christian Schoool opened its doors in the Las Lagunas neighbourhood of El Juncal with an educational offer for children between 3 and 18 years of age. Since then, many families, not only British, have entrusted their children's education to the teaching staff of this centre which is governed by the British curriculum, but which maintains the customs and culture of Spain. On Friday they celebrated Andalusia Day.

  • Los estudiantes han disfrutado con la actuación en directo de un cuadro flamenco.

"As we have Spanish as a language in our classrooms, they are learning the provinces of our autonomous community, and we are integrating them into our Andalusian region and culture: the bread, the oil, the ham, which they love", said the school's director, Katie Bertrán de Lis.

  • En el centro, el concejal de Extranjeros, junto a la directora del centro y profesores.

The councillor for Foreigners, Mario Bravo (PP), was invited to this school party and visited the facilities and accompanied teachers and students in this celebration: "The secret of the growth of Mijas, which has tripled the population in 30 years, is also thanks to the fact that everyone who has come here as a tourist, as a visitor, has found an environment where they can stay, give their children an education, find work... in short, where they can be happy, which is what we are all looking for".

  • Alumnas con su desayuno andaluz.

The students, who were dressed up for the occasion, had a ‘mollete’, which is a typical Andalusian bread, with tomato and olive oil for breakfast. They also had the opportunity to enjoy a flamenco performance.

  • El cuadro flamenco ha animado la mañana durante la celebración de este Día de Andalucía.

"As you can see, the 230 students and teachers are perfectly united as if they were one big family", said Katie Bertrán de Lis and Bravo reiterated that “this has been the great secret of the growth of Mijas, welcoming people coming from other countries into the atmosphere and our culture”.
