The Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office hosts a new exhibition by the Mijas Craft Association, which will be open to the public until February 27th

During this month, the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office becomes a showcase for the creativity and skill of two Mijas craftswomen: María José Calvente, dressmaker, and Fátima Chbihi, jewellery designer. The exhibition, which will be open to the public until the 27th of February, celebrates the art of craftsmanship, highlighting the work and imagination of these two local artists. The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), highlighted the importance of design and creativity in craftsmanship. "It's not just the creation, but the design of the product, the creativity of each person, to get something out of a piece of metal or a piece of cloth, or a stone, something the rest of us don't see", said Jerez, referring to the talent that Fátima and María José demonstrate with their work.

Fátima Chbihi, a jewellery specialist, presented a variety of necklaces, bracelets and earrings made from silver. "I have a workshop and shop at number 10 Calle Málaga in Mijas Pueblo where I work and design my pieces", explained Fátima, who has managed to combine traditional craftsmanship with a touch of innovation and style.

For her part, María José Calvente showed her work at the exhibition with enthusiasm. "I'm very happy, a lot of people are coming and I'm sure more will come. It's a great opportunity for everyone to see what we do", she said.

This exhibition is just one of the many initiatives of the Mijas Craft Association, which arose from an agreement between the collective and the Tourism Department to promote and enhance the local craft trades. Chbihi highlighted how this association has been key to the growth of local artisans: "It has given us a lot to learn and has helped us to move forward and support other artisans who didn't know where to start", she commented.

Councillor Jerez added that these types of exhibitions not only allow visitors to see the final products, but also offer the opportunity to see the creative process up close. "These are exhibitions that are worth seeing, and then, obviously, stopping by the shops, businesses and workshops to see how the artisans work", he explained.
