It is aimed at vulnerable groups who need a boost to access the labour market

Mijas Red Cross continues this year 2025 with its local Employment Plan aimed at vulnerable groups who need a boost to access the labour market. The local assembly in Mijas has launched this year four projects within this plan aimed at young people, women with social difficulties, people over the legal working age and companies. Through these programmes it will be able to assist 150 people during the year with the aim of improving their employability through training and the mediation of companies in order to achieve job placement.

The projects

Project Accelerators GO Youth Employment (Proyecto Aceleradores GO Empleo Juvenil), Project Activating Employ-ability (Proyecto Activando Emple-habilidad), Project Bridges for Equality in Employment Plus (Proyecto Puentes por la Igualdad en el Empleo Plus) and Project Social Business Challenge (Proyecto Reto Social Empresarial) are the four initiatives that have already been launched and are starting to be publicised. The first of these is aimed at young people aged between 16 and 29 registered in the Youth Guarantee System. "This means that they are neither studying nor working", explained the Red Cross employment technician in charge of this programme, Raquel Cano. "What we can offer them from this project is training courses that are not very long in duration, in some of them we also offer practical training that many young people need, and we can also do, depending on the profile, a direct mediation with the companies that collaborate", added the technician. Precisely, Proyecto Reto Social Empresarial is another of the four initiatives of this year and it works on cooperation and intermediation with different companies.

The Activating Employ-ability project is also underway, aimed at unemployed people aged between 16 and 65. "We work on everything that has to do with job orientation, CVs, how to look for a job effectively, how to handle job interviews; we also put a lot of emphasis on people learning basic digital skills, which are very important nowadays, and we also offer training courses that can help people find a job", said Patricia Wilkenschildt, the technician in charge of this project.

Bridges for Equality in Employment Plus is aimed, in this case, at women with social difficulties between the ages of 16 and 65. Mari Carmen Bohorquez is the Red Cross Mijas technician in charge of this programme: "My project is aimed at women who are unemployed and have a work permit, single-parent women, foreign women, women over 45 years old, victims of gender violence, unhomed women... In general, women who have been unemployed for a long time. We can offer them guidance, training and intermediation, we work with them all year round, from January to December, and when they are hired they leave project".

Upcoming courses

These projects are available to the residents of Mijas, who can already request information and register for them at the local assembly of the Red Cross in Mijas and at this link. In addition, the registration period for some of the courses offered by the NGO for professional training is already open, as they will start in February or March. The courses, which are free of charge, will be for shop assistants, sales activities, basic fast food operations, first aid, waiter/waitress, kitchen assistant, petrol station attendant and multi-purpose supermarket staff. The courses will have a theoretical part (in person, blended or online) and the possibility of non-labour training placements in companies in the sector.

All the Red Cross employment plan projects are 85% financed by the European Social Fund and 15% by the Red Cross itself.
