Finally, the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's patients Fuengirola-Mijas Costa has not been awarded a grant from the Junta de Andalucía which the group had applied for in order to extend its day centre, thus allowing it to attend to 60 more users with cognitive impairment.
According to the president of the collective, Paqui Lebrón, the Junta de Andalucia rejected to grant this aid from the Department of Social Inclusion, valued at 900,000 euros and which was provisionally approved in July 2024, because the plot on which this infrastructure was to be built, owned by the Fuengirola Town Hall, had been ceded to the association, but it was not the owner, argued the resolution. "When we received this statement, we spoke to the Town Hall [of Fuengirola] and a document was drawn up in which the mayoress [Ana Mula] committed herself to ceding this land. We all believed that that was enough, because that is what we had been told", Lebrón said.
This first letter from the Junta de Andalucía rejecting AFA's subsidy arrived in October, continued the president of the group, "and then the legal services of the Fuengirola Town Hall were making enquiries with the Andalusian Government and we filed an appeal, which we presented in November". Last Tuesday, 28th of January, the response to the appeal was once again unfavourable. Lebrón, in view of everything that has happened, affirmed that "we don't know whose fault it was, but it certainly wasn't ours". "We have tried in every way possible to find a solution to this waiting list problem, but for the moment it is not going to be possible", said the president of AFA.

From the territorial delegation of the Department of Social Inclusion of the Junta de Andalucía, they say they understand the discomfort that this resolution has generated in the association AFA Fuengirola-Mijas Costa, but remember that "the first requirement to receive this grant was to be the owner of the plot". They also add that "the transfer of the plot had to pass through the municipal plenary, something that finally has not been done".
