The Mijas Craft Association celebrated its tenth anniversary on Thursday 30th with a meeting that provided a break from work to be together and share experiences. 

"We started in 2014 being only seven artisans and now we are 39, of which 25 have their artisan card, and there is no federation in Malaga that has so many artisans wiht a card, so for us it is a source of pride. It is true that some artisans don't even know each other in person, they do know each other through contacts, but there they are, each one with their own trade, a marvellous thing", said the president of the Mijas Craft Association, Sonia Lekuona.

The board of directors is made up of the first artisans who came together in 2014 in Mijas to join forces and to remember that they are an important sector and that they are part of the economic network of towns and cities. Since then they have achieved great things, the best of which is that artisans keep calling to join this collective. "Every time someone asks how they can join our association, we realise that people know us known", said José Angulo, secretary of the collective.  

Most of the artisans have a long family history. "I have been in the trade for more than 30 years, I come from a family of ceramists, we are five generations, there is a lot of tradition there, I don't have a certificate, I learned everything from my parents but the artisans card is something that accredits you", said the ceramist Pascual Cózar.

Day of coexistence between artisans

On Thursday afternoon, jeweller makers, ceramists, silversmiths and people who make fashion, albeit different, embraced each other. Azahara Rodríguez, who works in fashion and the the ceramist Rosa Cuevas said that “this association has prive them with many opportunities, they have helped us a lot, they have us me ideas and a lot of encouragement to continue”.

It was an anniversary in which everyone celebrated their objectives: to promote crafts and revive the trades, adding more artisans and thinking about future projects.
