The Three Wise Men will distribute in the municipality of Mijas more than 8,000 kilos of gluten-free sweets in the parades that will travel through the streets of the three urban centres. The parade will be made up of royal floats, Christmas animation floats, children’s animation groups, large scale animation, ‘charangas’ and ‘batucadas’.
In addition to the eight tonnes of gluten-free sweets, the 270 children who will take part in the parade will throw 5,000 bags of ‘gusanitos’ (corn snakcs), 1,200 sweet sticks, 2,000 balls, stuffed toys and other toys. Five kilos of sugar-free sweets will also be available, which can be requested from the people in charge of the floats.
According to the councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín (PP), the parade is scheduled to start at 16:30 in Mijas Pueblo, at 17:00 in La Cala and at 17:30 in Las Lagunas. “We have everything ready for the Three Wise Men to arrive in Mijas without any problems and for the children of the municipality to enjoy this magical day”, said Marín, who added that “it is a very speciall time of the year, the children excited and are looking forward to seeing the Three Wise Men in their town, to be able to share moments with them and for their dreams to come true. We parents and grandparents are the ones who enjoy it the most”, she said.
At the end of the routes, Their Majesties from the East will receive the children to listen to their last wishes, take photos with them and give them the toys that have not been distributed.
As a final touch, the Mijas Town Hall will invite neighbours to hot chocolate and ‘roscón de reyes’ at the three end points of the parades: the Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo, the boulevard in La Cala and the María Zambrano Park in Las Lagunas.
Collaboration
The three parades will have the collaboration of the associations of Mijas: Hermandad Dulce Nombre de Jesús, Hermandad Cristo de La Paz, Grupo Joven Virgen de La Peña, CDF Torreón de La Cala, Asociación de Jóvenes La Cala, Asociación Cultural Malagueña de Inmigrantes Senegaleses, Asociación de Vecinos Puerto Los Gatos y de calle Torremolinos, Asociación Cultural Mibu, the neighbourhood associations María Zambrano, Tamisa, Las Cañadas, Doña Ermita and El Juncal, Hermandad Jesús Vivo and the association Cine Mijas. The Festivities Board also joins in.
Security and cleaning presence
On the other hand, in order to guarantee the correct development of the different parades and that the visit of their Majesties runs smoothly, the Local Police will be deployed with 35 officers, joined by 12 members of Civil Protection.
As for the cleaning team, more than twenty workers will be responsible for ensuring that the different parts of the municipality through which the parades pass are left in perfect condition after the event. Seven sweepers, eight blowers, three open box trucks and three support vehicles make up the equipment available to the team deployed to facilitate their work.
“It is important to highlight the fact that the different departments, such as the Local Police, Civil Protection and Fire Brigade accompany us on the floats, but also the Cleaning Department, and many other areas that are collaborating right now so that the Three Kings parade flows, goes well and there are no incidents, also with all the help of all the festivities boards and associations”, concluded Marín. Lastly, the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP), also joined in this appreciation and wished “a happy 2025 in which, above all, there is no lack of health”.
