The Las Lagunas Music Group celebrated its fortieth anniversary on Sunday 24th, and there was no better way to do it than with a concert. The Manuel España Theatre hosted this event in which the band premiered its own march, ‘40 años de Viernes Santo, 40 años de Unión’, composed by its director, Cristóbal Cruz Ballesteros. The piece is dedicated to the Hermandad de Jesús Vivo, with which, they say, there is a special bond and which is also celebrating its 40th anniversary this year; and to all the members who make up the group today, some 70 people, as well as to the musicians, teachers and conductors who have been part of it. Many of them got together on Sunday for this fortieth anniversary, an event that also paid tribute to Cruz Ballesteros.

Tributes

Forty years since the band took its first steps on September 8th, 1984, under the name 'Banda de cornetas, tambores y melódicas Las Lagunas'. In these four decades of history, the number of parades and musicians who have completed its ranks are almost countless This is well known to the directors of this group, to whom tribute was also paid, including the brothers José and Paco, and Rafael González and Juan Pacheco. The event also served to present diplomas to the musicians who have been playing in this group for 10 years.

The group has been active for forty years. They have never stopped parading or giving concerts. Even in 2020, during the pandemic, they took it upon themselves to bring music to people's homes through social media. This was highlighted by the band's spokesman, Javier Sedeño, who emphasised that "through music, we have always been present at all kinds of events in Mijas, such as the Three Kings Parade, and above all, at Holy Week".

Also participating in the concert were the Music Groups Agrupación Musical Nuestra Señora del Carmen, from Calahonda de Granada, and that of Marbella, with which they have been twinned since February.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata, together with other members of the municipal corporation attended the concert. The mayoress praised the work of the group, "they have spent 40 years making history and sharing events in which music has been present".

The concert ended with the march ‘Seres de luz’ performed by the musical groups of Las Lagunas and Marbella.
